Frequently Asked Questions

Product Basics

  • KokaGLO™ is a compact, high-output UV tackle charger designed to energize glow-in-the-dark and UV-reactive fishing lures, beads, plastics, and attractants. It delivers a fast, consistent charge so your gear stays bright and visible in low-light or deep-water conditions.

  • KokaGLO™ uses a specialized UV LED array tuned to the wavelengths that activate photoluminescent and UV-enhanced materials. Simply power on the device using a USB power source, place your lures inside, close the drawer(s), and let the device charge them in seconds.

  • Any UV-reactive or glow-in-the-dark lure, dodger, bead, jig, spoon, plastic (hoochies or squids), flies, attractant, or terminal tackle. If it glows, KokaGLO™ charges it.

Performance & Use

  • Most lures reach full brightness in 5–10 seconds. 3D plastics may take slightly longer.

  • Glow duration depends on how the lure is manufactured and what materials are used. Painted lures may not retain the glow as long as those assembled using moon jelly glow tape or other materials. Many lures stay bright for 20–60 minutes, and you can recharge them instantly with KokaGLO™. Charge on the fly between re-baiting.

  • Freshwater (Lakes & Reservoirs)

UV light fades extremely fast in freshwater because algae, sediment, and tannins absorb it almost immediately.

    • UVB: mostly gone within a few inches to 1 foot.

    • UVA: typically reaches 2–6 feet in normal lake conditions.

    • Very clear lakes: UVA may reach 10–15 feet, but intensity is already very low.

Because UV drops off so quickly, sunlight cannot keep glow lures charged at depth in freshwater. Precharging is essential for visibility.

Even offshore, UV strong enough to charge glow tackle is mostly limited to the upper 20–40 feet.

Why this matters for glow tackle:

Natural UV sunlight can’t maintain a strong glow once your lure drops below the upper water column, especially in lakes. Glow lures need active charging before deployment, and recharging between drops dramatically improves visibility.

KokaGLO delivers a full, consistent UV charge so your tackle stays bright where sunlight can’t reach.

  • Yes. KokaGLO™ uses controlled UV output that is safe for fishing materials and coatings.

  • Our internal testing shows that the KokaGLO™ unit reaches a peak internal temperature of 20-30°F above the outside air temperature. On hot days with direct sun exposure, temperatures may rise higher. Although the KokaGLO unit is made from temperature resistant materials, we recommend keeping the unit out of direct sunlight on hot days to prevent potential overheating of sensitive fishing tackle.

  • Any flat surface near a reliable power source works well for installing or placing your KokaGLO™ unit. Choose a spot that’s easy to reach during normal use and keeps the device stable while you’re on the water.

The bottom of each KokaGLO™ case includes four M3 threaded brass inserts that allow for custom mounting solutions. To access the inserts, simply remove the four screws on the bottom of the unit. To prevent internal damage to the unit that may affect bottom drawer operation, mounting screws should not be inserted more than 8mm (0.32” or 5/16”) into the unit.

See the detailed instruction manual under “Adapter Plate” in Shop.

  • KokaGLO™ is built for real-world fishing environments. While it’s not guaranteed to be waterproof, it is water resistant and is durable enough for boats, banks, and ice shacks in all kinds of weather.

  • KokaGLO™ drawers are secured with positive friction based retention, allowing smooth one, or two‑handed operation while keeping each drawer firmly closed so your tackle stays organized and protected.

The drawers are lined with silicone mat to keep tackle from sliding and rattling around during use and transport.

Power & Durability

  • The “Angler” (2-drawer) unit draws ~7 watts and the “Guide” (4-drawer) ~12 watts. As an example, a 20,000 mAh battery pack should last approximately 12-13 hours for the “Angler” and 7-8 hours for the “Guide”.

  • The UV LEDs are built for the long haul—rated for 20,000+ hours. To put this into context, this is 7+ years of continuous on-time every day for 8 hours/day before they start to degrade. With typical seasonal usage and charging cycles, you can expect many years of dependable, high performance charging.

  • KokaGLO™ is powered through any standard USB DC power source and a USB-C style cable. Sources can include a vessel’s built‑in USB port, a portable USB battery pack, or a 12V lighter style socket with a DC USB phone charger (example picture link).

Units can be left powered on all day when using vessel supplied power. When using a customer supplied USB-C battery pack, it is recommended to turn the unit off between charging sessions to preserve battery life.

Because every vessel setup is different, customers supply their own USB power source and cable to match the length and routing that works best for their application.

Quality & Manufacturing

  • KokaGLO™ is proudly designed and manufactured in Boise, Idaho, USA.

  • The housing is built from rugged, outdoor-ready UV-resistant materials designed to withstand drops, cold weather, and heavy use.

  • While the foam will eventually become stained from various baits, the color white is much better for reflecting the UV light within the drawer for charging tackle. The foam can easily be replaced over time.

Fishing Applications

  • Any fish that responds well to glow or UV presentation - kokanee, trout, salmon, walleye, panfish, lake trout, and more.

  • Yes. Standard non-reactive UV lures/tackle won’t glow, but many modern lures/tackle already contain UV or glow additives.

Troubleshooting

  • Try charging it for a few extra seconds. Some materials require more exposure. Also ensure the lure is truly UV-reactive.

  • Check the cable connection and ensure the power source from your vessel or external battery pack is functioning. Check to see if another device functions using the same USB source to help troubleshoot. If issues continue, reach out to KokaGLO support.
